the spirit of wisdom

wisdom is spiritual.

it interacts with our natural minds, yet it originates from God, Who is Spirit.

Oftentimes, we think things are one or the other: natural or spiritual. with God, it’s usually both. He created both: the heavens and the earth. The breath of man and beast as well as their form. I think many of us assume that “natural” equals “bad” and “spiritual” equals “good.” When God had made all things, the heavens, the earth, the form of man and the spirit within him, God said it was all “very good”. God does not wish to do away with the natural and preserve only the spiritual. He wishes to do away with the carnal, but that’s another matter. The fact is, there will be a doing away with all things, both natural and spiritual: the heavens and the earth will pass away. there will be a new heaven and a new earth. And here we come to the point of this: God desires to bring together all things both natural and spiritual in one Man, that is, Christ.

“that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him.” Ephesians 1:10

The present heaven is perhaps for us the final separation of natural & spiritual. When children of God die, their bodies go into the ground and their spirits ascend to heaven. Body and spirit continue to “exist” separately until the resurrection. Heaven is not our final destination, and we should be thankful for that. We were not designed to exist merely as a spirit. I believe the experience of the Christian’s spirit in heaven is a blissful one, yet it is not the greatest one. Our fullness will begin on the day when all of heaven is emptied, every departed spirit is united with it’s body and in an instant we are changed. It will be glorious! We will all experience this together. Resurrected bodies with real physical and spiritual characteristics. Just like Jesus.

[i do want to say here, for any who don't know: not everyone gets to go be with Jesus in heaven, or live with Him in a resurrected body forever. This is a sad and terrifying thing. Those who reject Christ, when they die, their bodies also go into the ground, but their spirits are held in terrible, dark captivity. When Jesus comes again, the bodies and spirits of those who hate Him will also be reunited, but they will not share in the joy of living with Jesus in the new earth and heaven. Those who have refused Christ will exist forever, in resurrected bodies, in horrific burning and consumption without end. They will never cease to suffer. Their experience of pain will be perfect. No one, no one, no one needs to suffer this fate. It is not God's desire. Everyone is welcome into His family. Everyone has a chance. He's made the way easy: Jesus. Believe on Jesus. Tell Him all about your sins, ask forgiveness, and receive it freely. Give yourself into His care, and let Him lead you home. All of this too, is the kindness and wisdom of God.]

Right now, Jesus is the only One living in that fullness. Of course, there’s Enoch and Elijah and maybe even Moses who apparently have physical bodies in heaven. I personally don’t think that that have their resurrected bodies yet, though. That’s something the Father is saving for us all to share in together at once. Jesus, and perhaps, in a way, these few others, are the firstfruits of flesh and spirit, heaven & earth being brought together.

wisdom is an example of the intersection of spiritual and natural. wisdom is a “spirit.” I would say it is one of the expressions of the Holy Spirit, or one of the “seven Spirits of God” which represent the perfect wholeness of the Holy Spirit. As we pray for and receive wisdom, the Holy Spirit moves on our natural minds empowering us to understand and do what we could not before.

it’s spiritually natural. it’s naturally spiritual. why are we talking about this stuff? Well, cuz it really gets me going! i love how God has made us: body, soul, mind, spirit, heart: amazing! we can know God in all these ways. And that’s really what the spirit of wisdom is about: knowing God. But, we’ll get into that shortly, after a discussion of yet another spirit.
