hope has enemies.
they stalk our hope and seek to devour it.
let’s identify them so that if we see any lurking around we can break their freakin’ necks! (i love how the Peaceful God enjoys crushing the heads of our adversaries underneath OUR feet!)
so, here’s a few of my common hope-killers:
-fear
-a focus on what I can or cannot do (instead of what God can, and says He will do)
-lack of support / agreement from others around me
-a twisted view of God in which i convince myself that He derives joy from my dissatisfaction.
There! That was fun! Your turn.
let’s add to the list so if you or i should spot any of these beasts, we can tell Jesus and join Him in the beat-down!

how about hurt/anger? that seems to be what steals the hope from many of the young men at the group home. they hold it inside and it consumes them. Jesus, set them free and give them hope.

Yup. I think that is a major hope killer, Aaron. Lord, heal the hurts and soothe the anger.

ooh, my–”freakin’” and “sucked” in the same screen–take THAT, spirit of religion, you hideous hope-stealer!. my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. my hope’s anchored within the veil, in the very certain Presence. Wanna take Him on in an alley fight? i didn’t think so.

Ha! Yeah, Sarah, that may be public enemy #1: religious spirit. i sure hope i’m found on the right side of the alley!
